The family of Liverpool footballer Luis Diaz is urgently seeking confirmation that his father is still alive, nearly 48 hours after a terrorist group promised to release him.

The family of Liverpool's star player, Luis Diaz, is growing increasingly concerned about the safety of his father, Luis Manuel Diaz, who has been held hostage by kidnappers. The family is demanding that the kidnappers provide proof of his father's well-being as their worries escalate.

Despite the terrorist group's previous promise to release Luis Manuel Diaz promptly, they have failed to do so. The group has blamed the Colombian government for impeding their efforts, citing the high military and police presence in the Perija Mountains along the Colombia-Venezuela border, where the father-of-four is believed to be held. In response to these accusations, the government has ordered the withdrawal of troops and elite police to Barrancas, where the kidnapping took place on October 28. However, the 11-day ordeal continues for Luis Diaz's family.

Luis Diaz's brother, Gabi, expressed their concerns and pleaded with the ELN, the terrorist group, to provide evidence that the 58-year-old is still alive. He said, "What we would most like is to have that proof by seeing him and knowing what situation our brother, our relative, our papa, our son is in because my father is here and wants to see his son." Luis Alfonso Diaz, the footballer's cousin, echoed this sentiment, urging the ELN to provide proof of Luis Manuel's current condition for the family's peace of mind.

These demands are also being echoed by government officials and Colombian media, which have accused the captors of playing games and suggested that their claims of military and police activity complicating the release process may be a tactic to buy time while negotiating a ransom demand.

Colombian journalist Salud Hernandez-Mora, referring to Luis Diaz as "Lucho," warned that the ELN's kidnapping tactics were similar to previous incidents, where they only released hostages in exchange for large sums of money.

Respected Colombian media outlet Semana emphasized the importance of the ELN providing proof of Luis Manuel Diaz's well-being to ensure that he is in good conditions and is indeed held by the Northern War Front, a regional unit of the ELN.

Otty Patino, the Colombian government's chief negotiator in ongoing peace talks with the ELN, expressed frustration over the extended delay in the hostage's release and stated that there is no reason for the group not to free Mr. Diaz, especially considering the passed deadline.
