Senators Demand Apology from Oshiomhole Regarding 'Looting' Remark

Several senators, including those from the ninth Assembly, have called for an apology from Senator Adams Oshiomhole (APC Edo North) in response to allegations of vandalism made by him against them.

During an appearance on the Politics Today program on Channels Television last Sunday, Oshiomhole claimed that senators and House of Representatives members from the 9th National Assembly had taken away items from their offices, including rugs. He further stated that he and many other federal lawmakers in the 10th National Assembly had personally financed the refurbishment of their offices.

According to Oshiomhole, despite the presence of security personnel, television sets, carpets, and chairs were looted by the former lawmakers, leaving their offices in a state of disrepair, necessitating the current lawmakers to cover the expenses for repairs from their own pockets.

In response to these accusations, Senator Adeola Solomon (APC Ogun West) raised a motion during Tuesday's plenary, demanding an apology from Oshiomhole. He expressed that the comments were a source of embarrassment to the lawmakers and amounted to an abuse of his privilege.

Senator Solomon emphasized that it is virtually impossible for a senator or their aides to take anything from the National Assembly without proper documentation and accountability. He asserted that all items were thoroughly checked, legally approved, and their costs were deducted from severance packages.

Senator Adamu Aliero (PDP Kebbi Central) seconded and supported Senator Solomon's motion, amplifying the demand for an apology from Oshiomhole. The matter is currently under discussion, and further details will be provided as they unfold.
