"Fuel Price Hiked to N617/Litre Sparks Renewed Shege, Atiku's Aide References Buhari's Warning"

An aide to the 2023 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, named Daniel Bwala, has criticized the Federal Government's decision to raise the pump price of fuel.

Bwala expressed his concerns, stating that Nigerians are facing renewed difficulties with the sudden increase in fuel prices. He questioned why citizens are being compelled to purchase fuel at international market rates while not receiving an equivalent international minimum wage.

Taking to Twitter, Bwala referenced former President Muhammadu Buhari's recent trek in Daura, Katsina State, suggesting that it was a warning to the nation. He believes that if the government proceeds with this price hike, Nigeria may suffer serious consequences.

Furthermore, Bwala recalled the impact of previous structural adjustment programs, particularly during the time of former President Ibrahim Babangida, which led to negative outcomes for the country.

The recent increase in fuel prices by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) saw petrol reaching approximately N617 per litre. This comes shortly after the removal of fuel subsidy, which had previously led to the price soaring over N500 per litre.

As the cost of living rises and the exchange rate of the dollar continues to climb, many Nigerians are left wondering about the future and whether their hopes will be renewed.
