Former Zamfara Governor, Yari, Allegedly Detained and Interrogated by DSS; New Information Uncovered

Former Zamfara Governor Abdulaziz Yari has reportedly found himself under the scrutiny of the Department of State Services (DSS), as revealed in a report by The Punch.

The reasons behind the detention and interrogation of the current senator representing Zamfara West remain unclear. On Thursday, July 6, after the plenary session, Yari allegedly presented himself at the DSS office. According to an anonymous source, "Senator Yari is still in the DSS custody, but he should be out soon in sha'Allah. He went to their office himself after the plenary. I escorted him there, and he has been there since then." However, the motive behind the security agency's invitation to the lawmaker has not been disclosed.

In another development, as reported by The Nation, an additional source claimed that Yari's detention is linked to his alleged involvement in a fresh conspiracy to destabilize the 10th Senate after his unsuccessful bid for Senate Presidency.

The source explained, "Following the announcement of Principal Officers of the Senate on Tuesday by the Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, some northern Senators who were said to be unhappy with the choice of those who emerged were said to have approached Yari in the Chambers, where they complained bitterly to him that Akpabio had abandoned them despite their support for him.

The DSS became aware of this situation, in which he was becoming a focal point of opposition against Akpabio, particularly from the North, and decided to pick him up for questioning."

The newspaper also cited an aide of Yari, who stated that the senator's arrest is unrelated to his bid for the Senate Presidency.
