"Central Bank of Nigeria's Suspended Governor, Emefiele, to Face Arraignment on Tuesday"



Suspended Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Mr. Godwin Emefiele, is set to face formal arraignment on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, on charges related to alleged possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Emefiele will be appearing before the Federal High Court in Lagos, where Justice Nicholas Oweibo will preside over the case. He is being charged with two counts: the unlawful possession of a pump action rifle and 123 rounds of live cartridges.

According to the charges, Emefiele, who has been in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS) since June 10, was found to have possessed a Single Barrel shotgun (JOJEFF MAGNUM 8371) without a valid license. This act is in violation of Section 4 of the Firearms Act, Cap. F28 Laws of the Federation 2004, and punishable under Section 27 (1b) of the same Act.

The second count against him relates to the possession of 123 rounds of live ammunition (Cartridges) without the necessary license. This offense is contrary to Section 8 of the Firearms Act Cap F28 Laws of the Federation 2004 and punishable under Section 27 (1)(b)(il) of the same Act.

The alleged incident took place on June 15, 2023, at No. 3b Iru Close, Ikoyi, Eti Osa Local Government, Lagos State.

The arraignment marks a significant development in the case, and Emefiele's appearance in court will be closely monitored as the legal proceedings unfold.
