Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, has been elected as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors' Forum, according to an announcement made by Adamawa State Governor, Umaru Fintiri.
The decision was reached during a closed-door meeting of the PDP governors, which took place at the office of the Bauchi State Governor on Saturday.
The gathering, held at the Banquet Hall of the Bauchi State Government House, brought together PDP governors, members of the National Working Committee, and various stakeholders for a retreat aimed at fostering unity and collaboration among elected officials.
Following the opening ceremony of the retreat, the participants engaged in closed-door meetings organized by different caucuses within the party. It was during one of these sessions that Governor Fintiri revealed the appointment of Governor Mohammed as the new Chairman, replacing Seyi Makinde of Oyo State.
Siminalayi Fubara, the Governor of Rivers State, was also elected as the Vice Chairman of the forum.
Governor Fintiri highlighted Governor Mohammed's competence and capabilities as the driving force behind his selection for the role, expressing confidence in his ability to lead the forum to even greater achievements.
In response, Governor Mohammed expressed gratitude for the honor bestowed upon him and the people of Bauchi State. He pledged to work closely with his colleagues to advance the goals and progress of the forum and the PDP as a whole.
The retreat was attended by several distinguished personalities, including Governors Umaru Fintiri (Adamawa), Duoye Diri (Bayelsa), Bala Mohammed (Bauchi), Sheriff Oborevwori (Delta), Ademola Adeleke (Osun), Seyi Makinde (Oyo, represented by his deputy Philip Shuaibu), Siminalayi Fubara (Rivers), Caleb Mutfwang (Plateau), Agbu Kefas (Taraba), Dauda Dare (Zamafara), and the representative of Godwin Obaseki (Edo).
Notable figures such as Atiku Abubakar, the Presidential Candidate of the PDP, Umar Damagum (Acting National Chairman of PDP's National Working Committee), Adolphus Wabara (Chairman, Board of Trustees), Ahmed Makarfi (former PDP National Chairman), Walid Jibril (former Board of Trustees Chairman), Babangida Aliyu (former Niger State Governor), Aminu Tambuwal (former Chairman, Nigeria Governors' Forum), and Dino Melaye (Kogi State Governorship Candidate) were also in attendance.
The event also saw the presence of serving and elected senators, members of the House of Representatives, and the Chairman of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria, Abubakar Suleiman, who is also the Speaker of the Bauchi State House of Assembly, among others.
