Apostle Dr. Emmanuel Nuhu Kure, who held the position of co-chairman of House of Kaduna Family, a peace organization in the state, has submitted his immediate resignation.
In his resignation letter addressed to the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the Kaduna State Peace Commission, Kure stated that he could not, in good conscience, continue to serve on a committee that would contribute to the disharmony and further division of Nigeria.
Kure alleged that the former Governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, had never implemented any of the suggestions discussed in their numerous meetings.
He referred to a viral video statement, attributed to El-Rufai, where the former governor appeared to express gratitude to one religion over another, explained the discriminatory actions of his government, and advocated for the entrenchment of a Muslim-Muslim ticket and religious domination in Nigeria.
Kure believed that these views contradicted his personal beliefs, the principles of fairness, and the ideals of the Peace Commission.
The resignation letter read, in part, "I hereby tender my resignation as both Co-Chair and Member of this commendable Committee because it is evident that we were set up to serve ulterior motives and not intended to succeed. This may explain why the governor never implemented any of our suggestions from our numerous meetings. I cannot, in good conscience, serve on a committee that promotes disharmony and the further disintegration of our great nation. Furthermore, it is clear that this explains why he arbitrarily proscribed the Atyap Development Association as a warning to other associations in Southern Kaduna, indicating that they too would face similar consequences if they brought the plight of the Southern Kaduna people to the attention of the world."
Kure expressed hope that the current government would take steps to heal the wounds caused by the governor's statement and its negative impact on the Southern Kaduna people and Christians nationwide. He also prayed that the federal government would disregard El-Rufai's views in order to maintain peace and mutual trust between religious communities in the country.
Kure expressed his gratitude to the Peace Commission for the opportunity to serve and praised the Muslim leaders he worked closely with during his time on the committee. He emphasized his willingness to contribute to any future platform that genuinely promotes peace.
In conclusion, Kure commended the leadership of the Peace Commission, from the Chairman to the Vice Chairman and the entire Secretariat staff, for their dedicated work in pursuing peace in the region.
