In the ongoing case against President Bola Tinubu at the Presidential Election Petition Court, Atiku Abubakar, the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has presented a total of 118 exhibits before the five-member panel.
Atiku and the PDP filed the petition to challenge the victory of Tinubu, who ran under the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the February 25 election. Tinubu secured the win with a total of 8,794,726 votes.
The grounds of Atiku and the PDP's claims against Tinubu are twofold.
Firstly, they argue that the president was not legitimately elected by the majority of lawful votes cast in the election. Additionally, they allege that Tinubu was ineligible to contest the election at the time.
During the hearing on Tuesday, Atiku's lawyer, Eyitayo Jegede, began by presenting the first set of exhibits to the court. Among the evidence tendered were certified copies of the presidential election results from all 36 states of the federation and the Federal Capital Territory.
Furthermore, printouts of data extracted from the bimodal voter accreditation system and records of the number of permanent voter cards used across all states and the FCT were also submitted. All the exhibits presented were accepted as evidence by the court.
The respondents in the case have reserved their objections to the documents until their final written address. Notably, no witnesses were called by the petitioners during the hearing.
