The petition, unveiled to the media in Abuja on Thursday, February 8th, makes grave allegations against FERMA board members, accusing them of improperly meddling in the agency's operations and bestowing upon themselves unjustified privileges. Mr. Olumuyiwa Onlede, the Executive Director of CAACASVI, brought to light various concerns regarding irregularities within FERMA. He pointed out that the FERMA governing board, seemingly influenced by Minister of Works Dave Umahi, has exceeded its authority by seeking additional amenities such as office space and staff, which fall outside their designated duties.
Onlede stressed the urgency for presidential intervention, urging the President to reprimand the minister and dissolve any committees formed to address the board's demands for office accommodations. Furthermore, he emphasized the need for the Minister of Works, who oversees FERMA, to instruct board members to refrain from actions that imply interference in the agency's daily operations. Referring to the FERMA Act as a legal framework delineating the agency's functions and the roles of management staff appointed by the president, Onlede highlighted the widespread disapproval expressed by civil societies and the Nigerian public regarding these actions, which deviate from the board's intended responsibilities.
