Xavi Brands Barcelona as Among Europe's Underperformers"

Barcelona's head coach, Xavi Hernandez, expressed his disappointment with his team's performance after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Valencia on Saturday. The Blaugrana, coming off defeats in their previous two matches, aimed to bounce back at the Mestalla in La Liga but fell short of securing a victory. Xavi criticized the squad for their inability to capitalize on numerous scoring opportunities throughout the season.

Addressing the game, Xavi remarked, "We deserved to win; we did everything. What happened over the past weeks with regard to effectiveness was repeated. This match pretty much summarizes the season for us. We train finishing, but it depends on the players’ confidence. We have to be one of the teams with the worst finishing in Europe. I am very frustrated today."

Despite Barcelona's 16 shots, with eight on target, compared to Valencia's four shots on 11 attempts, they were unable to secure the three points. The team's struggles in front of goal have been evident, with 58 attempts in their previous three games resulting in only five goals. According to OptaJose, Barcelona now holds the unfortunate record of the most big chances missed (41) in Europe's top five leagues.

Xavi's managerial position is now under scrutiny, especially with Girona set to face Alaves on Monday, December 18. A Girona win would widen the gap between Barcelona and the league leaders to nine points. Barcelona is eager to return to winning ways and will face last-placed Almeria on Wednesday, December 20, in hopes of rejuvenating their season.
