Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) have resolved to take their case to the Supreme Court following the recent verdict from the Appeal Court on Friday. The Appeal Court upheld the State Election Petitions Tribunal's decision regarding the March 18 governorship election, resulting in the removal of Governor Yusuf from office. The court instead declared Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the rightful winner.
Governor Yusuf responded to the judgment through his verified social media account (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, expressing optimism that the Supreme Court would overturn what he perceives as "miscarriages of justice" by both the Tribunal and the Appeal Court. He emphasized their commitment to approaching the Supreme Court after thorough analysis and extensive consultations with stakeholders.
In a statement, Governor Yusuf conveyed the decision to seek justice for what he deems a miscarriage of justice delivered by the Appeal Court in Abuja. He expressed confidence that, with the grace of Allahu SWT, the Supreme Court would rectify the alleged injustices and reinstate their mandate, as originally bestowed by the people of Kano State.
Furthermore, Governor Yusuf urged the residents of Kano State to continue their normal activities, assuring them that all necessary measures have been implemented to ensure the security of their lives and property, emphasizing this as a fundamental responsibility.
