Court of Appeal Delivers Ruling on Orji Kalu's Electoral Victory

The Court of Appeal in Lagos Division has issued its final verdict on the election of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, who represents the Abia-North senatorial district. In a unanimous decision rendered on Monday, November 6, the appellate court upheld Kalu's victory as a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). This information was disclosed by Kalu's media office in a statement released in Abuja on the same day.

The court determined that the election of the former Abia Governor fully complied with the provisions of the Electoral Act. Additionally, it ruled that the allegations made by Mao Ohuabunwa of the Peoples Democratic Party and Nnamdi Iro Orji of the Labour Party, regarding the absence of elections in over 120 polling units, primarily in Ohafia and Arochukwu Local Government Areas of the senatorial zone, were not substantiated.

Furthermore, the court dismissed an attempt to disqualify Senator Kalu based on his alleged admission before the Federal High Court of a fraud conviction. The panel of Justices concluded that there was no valid conviction of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu under Section 66 of the Nigerian Constitution, as the Supreme Court had nullified the said conviction.
