Organized labor has announced a nationwide strike scheduled for Wednesday, November 8, 2023, in response to the assault on Comrade Joe Ajaero, the national president of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), that occurred in Imo State on Monday.
During a joint press conference in Abuja, Deputy President of the NLC, Comrade Adewale Adeyanju, and the Deputy President of the Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) laid out a set of six demands for the federal government to address in order to prevent the impending strike.
These demands include the immediate removal of the Imo State commissioner of police, the area commander, and other state government officials who have been implicated in the alleged mistreatment of Ajaero and other workers who were subjected to humiliation during the assault.
