The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) is set to convene a special meeting of its National Working Committee (NWC) to address the postponement of the National Caucus and National Executive Committee (NEC) meetings. This meeting comes ahead of the scheduled meeting with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and will also examine recent developments within the committee, including the resignation of National Vice Chairman (Northwest), Salihu Mohd. Lukman, which occurred on Wednesday.
According to a confidential source within the committee who spoke to The Nation, the meeting will also review a proposed agenda prepared by the Secretariat for both the Caucus and NEC meetings. Additionally, the NWC gathering will propose potential dates for the two meetings, pending the approval of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who holds the position of National Leader within the party.
Among the topics on the NWC meeting's agenda is the evaluation of membership lists for the five statutory standing committees, which will be presented for approval at the upcoming NEC meeting. These committees include the Establishment Committee, Finance Committee, Publicity Committee, Intergovernmental Committee, and Conflict and Reconciliation Committee, as approved by Article 18 of the party's constitution.
The source revealed that the NWC meeting is expected to make significant decisions regarding the postponed National Caucus and NEC meetings. The committee will prepare an agenda to present to the President on Friday, encompassing both meetings. However, specific dates for these meetings will be determined through consultations with various stakeholders and ultimately approved by the President, taking his schedule into consideration.
Regarding the resignation of the National Vice Chairman Northwest, members of the NWC expressed surprise and plan to discuss the matter during the Thursday meeting.
In summary, the APC's NWC is holding a special meeting to address the postponed Caucus and NEC meetings, propose agenda items, suggest potential meeting dates, and review membership lists for standing committees. The recent resignation of the National Vice Chairman Northwest will also be a subject of discussion during the meeting.
