The Presidential Election Petitions Tribunal in Abuja is set to begin pre-hearing in the petitions challenging the results of the February 25 presidential election.
Bola Tinubu of the All Progressives Congress was declared the winner of the election by the Independent National Electoral Commission, with 8,794,726 votes, while Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party came second with 6,984,520 votes. Labour Party’s Peter Obi was announced as the second runner-up with 6,101,533 votes.
However, Atiku, Obi, and some other parties have rejected the results and approached the tribunal to nullify Tinubu's victory.
The pre-hearing will involve scheduling the hearing, determining the number of witnesses, the time frame for the hearing, and the admission of documents.
Atiku's petition is a 66-page document praying the tribunal to declare him the winner of the poll or order a fresh election, while Obi's petition is also praying for the nullification of Tinubu's election.
