Yesterday, a Tarco aircraft marked B737-300 carrying 123 adults and 8 infants arrived at the Port Sudan International Airport, bringing the fourth batch of 131 Nigerians back home from Sudan.
The repatriation exercise was conducted by the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) and was supported by various stakeholders including the Nigerian Immigration Service, Dangote Foundation, MTN, and the Association of Parents and Guardian of Students in Sudan.
The evacuees were received by NIDCOM Chairman/CEO, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, and other stakeholders, including the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, a representative of the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Director-General of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), and a representative of the Refugees Commission.
The committee reiterated its commitment to bringing back every willing Nigerian from the war-torn Sudan, with another flight expected to arrive today.
Three of the evacuees sustained injuries and were taken to hospital, with one having an injury on the hand and another experiencing abdominal pain.
The committee assured the evacuees that there is no ethnic segregation and that it remains focused on its mandate. It also announced plans for post-trauma counseling and psycho-social treatment in partnership with the Ministry of Health and the Refugees Commission, with support from the Aliko Dangote Foundation.
Each of the returnees was given N100k and a bag courtesy of Dangote Foundation, while MTN provided a SIM pack, call credit of N25,000, and 1.5 G data in line with the traditional support laid down.
