Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, two football legends, have now moved on to different leagues, with Ronaldo in Saudi Arabia and Messi in MLS.
Despite their storied rivalry, Ronaldo clarified during a recent press conference while on duty with the Portugal national team that they aren't friends, but rather professional colleagues.
Ronaldo acknowledged that both players have embarked on distinct paths after their illustrious European careers. He acknowledged Messi's achievements and stated, "He is making his way, as I am making mine. Regardless of whether we play outside Europe, he is doing things right, from what I have seen, and I am also doing things right. And the legacy continues. We shared the stage for 15 years. I'm not saying we are friends, but we are colleagues in the profession and we respect each other."
Contrary to the perception of a fierce rivalry, Messi, recently named a finalist for the Ballon d'Or award, has consistently denied any animosity with Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo went on to address the fans' perspectives on the duo, asserting, "Whoever likes Cristiano Ronaldo doesn't have to hate Messi. They are both very good; they have changed the history of soccer. We are respected all over the world, and that's the most important thing," Ronaldo remarked, referring to himself in the third person.
